“If You Build It…”
As the often-quoted “Field of Dreams” saying goes, “If you build it, they will come.” However, in today’s world of rapidly changing technology, it should also be noted that if you don’t continually remodel and add on, they may not stay!
On an individual level, we know that keeping up with the latest version of computer software or the next generation of a favorite phone can be frustrating. As an institution of higher learning, staying abreast of, investing in and implementing the latest and most strategic technologies across the University can seem like a Herculean task. But the possibilities that those technologies offer to students, faculty, staff, and the institution as a whole drive Ottawa University’s commitment to leveraging the latest technologies in three primary areas: academics, communication and support.
Because these technology building blocks are essential to ensuring OU remains a viable institution in the 21st century and beyond, this issue of the Ottawa Spirit is devoted to showcasing recent technological advances in the University’s delivery of the “highest quality liberal arts education . . .”, its ever-widening and effective communication with constituents, and its increasingly efficient support of operations at all sites and online.
OU’s “field of dreams” is a “rapidly expanding institution known for its innovative educational models, exceptional value, and special ability to prepare diverse student populations for lives of enlightened faith, exemplary service, inspired leadership and personal significance.” Technology will continue to help build that vision in the hope that they, the students, will continue to come – and stay – at Ottawa University in pursuit of their own dreams.
